Abstract

Because of the growth of network and device capability, to realize interactive 3D virtual environment over Internet have become a popular and challenging research area. In recent development on practical 3D virtual environment, most of them focus on client-server architecture that deploys a central server or proxy to process 3D content rendering, storage, delivery and management. Therefore, the heavy computation and processing will be the bottleneck of the central server so that the overall performance might be worse. On the other hand, 3D scenes always have large volume so that 3D scenes which are transmitted from server may gain worse transmission performance and user’s device will not have enough storage space as well as server machine. Therefore, in this paper we propose a collaborative 3D scene management and streaming system to reduce the load of server-based architecture, and we use peer-to-peer technology to realize distributed virtual environment.
